Fall in Irvington
A picture from the fall of 2011 of Ellie in Irving Park, there was a lot less gray in her face back then. The big red strip attached to her collar lit up, one of several approaches we’ve tried over the years to make her more visible at night on our walks. The dog park is at the top of the hill in the background, normally she would be on leash at this point but I took it off for the picture.
Sadly I haven’t found a good time to photograph her in the fall color in the years since.
Oregon in Oregon
A dark-eyed junco visits the dogwood next to the bird feeders in our backyard. She is a female of the Oregon race.
The Eastern Gray
An eastern gray squirrel eats an acorn in our backyard. The eastern grays are not native to Oregon but are common in city neighborhoods.
Jitterbug
Our resident goofball enjoys a summer evening at the dog park.
Yellow Patches
A yellow-rumped warbler (Audubon’s) shows off many of his yellow patches (but not the one for which he is named). His patches weren’t very colorful, not sure if it was due to age, diet, or something else. He was visiting the suet feeder in my backyard along with some of our more typical winter visitors, I took the picture from inside my office with the window open (and screen removed).
Playing Catch in the Snow
Taken in the midst of several days of snow, it won’t last long but Ellie and I made merry while it was here.
The Pitch
It might look like she’s catching the ball, but Ellie is actually throwing it back to me. We adopted her when she was five and she was already doing this cute little trick so I can’t claim any credit for it.
Frisky
Age is taking its toll on her mobility but the snow (and my unexpected day off) had Ellie feeling frisky and in the mood for a game of catch.
