I’m not exactly sure, she mostly looked like this when I first came across her a couple of years ago. I gather she’s rather old, the central column looks like it broke a long time ago. Sometimes the arms grow down, not sure if the scar tissue up top encourages downward growth. She bloomed quite a bit last spring but two of her arms picked up a lot of damage during an extremely dry summer, not sure if it’s a fungus but it’s done a lot of damage. She’s my favorite saguaro, hopefully she’ll be around for a while yet even if a couple more arms break off.
Lovely scene! That cactus looks like it’s had a rough life. Do you have any idea what happened to it?
