Scratcher of heads, rubber of bellies
An old windswept tree at Seal Rock on the Oregon coast, barely hanging onto the cliffside and to life. Much of the fragile ground has already crumbled away beneath its roots, leaving them exposed, but its remaining roots still help hold the ground in place.
While hiking the Summerland Trail in Mount Rainier National Park, I came across this rocket being built by the animals of the forest. Looking good!

Massive waves crash into Boiler Bay on the central Oregon coast.
I usually think of lighthouses as being tall but perhaps the diminutive Heceta Head Light didn’t need to be as it sits high upon the cliffs above the Pacific Ocean. There isn’t much room between the lighthouse and those cliffs, so photographing it while next to it doesn’t yield the most flattering angle, but it does emphasize the short stature of this beacon of light. You can also see it from both the trail and the beach, and I did mean to photograph it when I got down to the beach near sunset, but the tide was out and I got distracted by tide pools.

A seagull flies above large waves approaching the cove at Heceta Head. It had been years since my last visit to this lovely place so I was delighted to spend the end of a day here last weekend on a brief trip to the central Oregon coast.
I visited Yaquina Head today for the first time in years and had a great time, but was sad to see that not only does the park not open until 8am, but you also have to leave right before sunset. This was fifteen minutes before as I was about to get in the car.
Water eases over the top of Latourell Falls, beginning the long fall to the bottom and the short journey to the Columbia.
I’ve posted this view of Upper Latourell Falls before, but in this picture I used a higher shutter speed to freeze the water. This waterfall I think looks good both ways.
